Oda Bultum University (OBU) Conducts Internal Curriculum Review Workshop.

Oda Bultum University in collaboration with European Commission BREEDTECH Project, has conducted internal curriculum review workshop to launch department of Plant Breeding in MSc. Program, under College of Agriculture.

On the commencement of the workshop, Mr. Sultan Usman, OBU College of Agriculture Dean said that launching contemporary plant breeding program has a paramount contribution in tackling food insecurity and climate change which are current worst challenges of our glob.

It is impossible to address food security and climate change associated issues with convectional agricultural mechanization alone. It needs modern agricultural technologies such as plant breeding. That is why we need to launch such contemporary fields of study to produce competent and qualified graduates in the areas of plant breeding with the view of increasing agricultural production and productivity to feed increased number of population, he added.

Meseret Elias (PhD) the pertinent presenter of the curriculum for review, in his part, mentioned that aside of the existence of available resources across Ethiopia in general and OBU in particular, there is a need to produce qualified professionals in plant breeding to promote food security and environmental resilience.

Critical professional reviews, suggestions and recommendations for better enrichment of the curriculum was forwarded by Waktola Mosisa (PhD) and Getahun Lemmessa (PhD candidate).

The program is funded by European Commission BRREEDTECH Project for three years term. The university’s collaborative work with various universities across African and European countries makes the program effective and the students’ opportunist for advisor ship and externship as well.

For further enrichment of the curriculum, general discussion was led by Amin Mohammed (PhD), Ahmedin Abdurehman (PhD) and Mr. Belay Dinsa, and constructive comments, suggestions and questions have been raised by professional participants and feedbacks have also been reflected by curriculum developers.
