Brief Background about Institute of Land Administration

Oda Bultum University (OBU), Institute of Land Administration (ILA) is located at Chiro town in West Hararghe zone of the Oromia National Regional State. It is located at 326 km southeast of Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia.
The Institute came to being developed from previous Haramaya University, College of Agro Industry and Land Resource as a department of Land Administration. The Institute has set itself core responsibilities, with a focus on producing ethical, competent qualified graduates, problem solving researches, and demand driven community services. The B.Sc. program in Land Administration as a department was established in 2015/16, having an objective of proper land management and administration, quality land education, research and community service. The establishment was initiated because of a serious lack of trained manpower in the area of land administration. This program has a very holistic approach including several different disciplines which give the students a wide knowledge of the technical, economical, legal and management aspects of land administration.

Since 2016/17, by building its capacity in updated surveying equipment and Laboratories, this programme becomes the Institute of Land Administration (ILA) and it is one of the members of East African Land Administration Network (ELAN). Now, the institute had two B.Sc. programme (Land Administration and Surveying and Geographic Information System) and it’s on the way to launch a BSc.
