Oda Bultum University is one of the leading higher learning institutions working aggressively towards demand driven and problem-solving researches and tackling community problems through integrating teaching, research and community services/technology transfer activities of the university which benefits various communities at different levels. Structurally, the Research and Community Services activities of Oda Bultum University are currently managed at the level of Vice President’s position. The University, in general, and the Research and Community Services wing, in particular, has the following core values: Accountability, Creativity, Dedication, Efficiency, Quality and Excellence in Research, Innovative approaches in community service and technology transfer, Honesty, Respect, Fairness and Integrity in carrying out intellectual endeavors, Community Engagement and Acceptability of transferred technology, Enhancing University Industry Linkage, Networking for Collaboration and partnership, Mutual Respect, Collegiality and team spirit in transforming the research and technology transfer, equity and gender balance in research and technology transfer, loyalty to the law and observing all statutory obligations in the conduct of research and community service, encouraging innovativeness to inculcate competitiveness and improvement and building a culture of evidence based conclusion through scientific approach.

The University has already established different research facilities including three Researches and training Centers besides strengthening the already existing services at different colleges/institutes. Moreover, to address the research priority of the country, in general, and the local community, in particular, the University has adopted a thematic research approach. Areas of research and relevant topics are identified in consultation with the relevant stakeholders/sectors that play a pivotal role in meeting regional and national priority needs as well as relevant international trends. The thematic areas are:

  1. Sustainable Agricultural Production & Productivity for Economic Growth,
  2. Sustainable Natural Resource & Environmental Development,
  3. Human Health, Nutrition and Welfare,
  4. Engineering, Renewable Energy, ICT and Communication Technology,
  5. Society, Humanity, indigenous knowledge, Governance and the Rule of Law,
  6. Institutions, innovation system and Economic Development and
  7. Basic Science Related Research areas.

Research outputs are communicated to the end users through different routes (means) including annual research conferences held every year, University hosted proceedings, magazines, publication on national and international peer reviewed journals, and policy briefs. In addition, some of the research findings are transferred into community service projects/technological products to solve a pressing problem of the community.

Oda Bultum University has also good track record of attracting national and international collaborators on joint research and publication activities, staffs exchange for research and technology transfer, services to the community and capacity building activities in areas such as environment, agriculture, engineering, health, education and others.
