Call for Application for MSc in Plant Breeding Study, 2024/25

Program Highlights

Oda Bultum University, a prominent public higher learning institution in Ethiopia, actively contributes to national development through teaching, research, technology transfer, and community service across various fields. In collaboration with the BREEDTECH project, funded by the European Commission under the Erasmus+ program, the university has been developing an MSc program in Plant Breeding. This program stands out by incorporating advanced molecular plant breeding courses, equipping students with modern techniques essential for addressing contemporary challenges in crop improvement and promoting sustainable agriculture.

Admission Requirements

Applicants for the MSc in Plant Breeding must hold a BSc degree in Plant Science, Horticulture, Crop Production, Crop Production and Protection, or related disciplines from a recognized university. Moreover, applicants must pass the National Graduate Admission Test (NGAT) administered by the Federal Ministry of Education of Ethiopia to be eligible for admission to this program. Qualified female applicants are highly encouraged to apply.

Benefits Provided by the BREEDTECH Project

Selected candidates will receive the following benefits:

• Mobility to European partner countries’ institutions (Sweden and Italy) for practical-based short-term training in advanced plant breeding and biotechnological tools.

• Modest funding for MSc research expenses.

• Research co-supervised by scientists from partner institutes in Europe, Asian and Africa.

How to Apply

Applicants must apply for admission to the Plant Breeding program in the Department of Plant Science at the College of Agriculture, Oda Bultum University. Qualified candidates should submit a single PDF file containing scanned copies of authenticated degrees and transcripts, a CV, a motivation letter, recommendation letters, publications (if any), and the GAT result by October 30, 2024, at 5:00 PM (East Africa Time: UTC+3). Please note: Successful candidates who fulfill the criteria and pass the screening will be contacted for an interview. A maximum of three candidates will be selected for the mentioned project.
